CVS/Caremark Specialty Drug Program
Piedmont has also contracted with Caremark Specialty Pharmacy Services as an exclusive provider for certain or selected specialty drugs. Specialty medications are typically prescribed for rare or uncommon medical conditions. These medications are usually higher cost medications and are generally administered and supervised under the care of physicians.
When your physician prescribes a medication included in the Specialty Guideline Management Program, he/she will start the enrollment process with Caremark. Upon completion of the enrollment process and receipt of a prescription, Caremark will begin the review process, communicate with your physician and together determine the appropriate medication regimen.
Medications will be mailed to members, limited to a 30 day supply, or the unit limit indicated by your plan. Refills will automatically be coordinated through Caremark and your physician. When refills are needed, they will be sent directly to you once a certain amount of the initial prescription has been taken.
